The department of la Creuse, named after its river, lies in the Limousin. In this
green, sparsely populated area small rivers cross the landscape of gently rolling hills,
wooded slopes and hedgerows. 'Creuse' means accordingly 'deep' and 'quiet'. The Creuse
valley contains numerous picturesque villages, painted by many artists of the Crozant
School. Within a distance of 5 to 25 km, there are nice trips for young and old such
as picnic -and playgrounds by an old watermill or near a Cisterian Abbey. On the river you
also find the Chateau de Boussac, where George Sand wrote her novel 'Jeanne'. Here hang
wonderful tapestries from the famous collection of Tapisserie d'Aubusson. |
